The College

Dhrangadhra is geographically located at the bank of Little Desert of Kutchh (in Zalawad) and it is known in the colloquial terminology as the land of ‘Aaval baval and bordi’. Dhrangadhra Taluka has been by and large a backward area since its inception as the most of the population residing in the vicinity is of Scheduled Tribes, which are known as ‘Koli’ community, Maldhari community, Rabari Bharwad, Vadi (Snake Charmers and bird catchers), Gadaliya Vanzara community, Bavaji Sadhus; Scheduled Castes mostly of Vankar, Chamar, Valmiki Samaj, Salt labourers etc.

The local merchants, the scribes and the advocates viz. Late Shri Harshadrai V. Trivedi, Late shri Gordhandas K. Mehta, Late shri Kanubhai Bhatt, Shri P.C. Poojara, Late shri Hirji Vithal Sheth decided to start a higher educational institute in this area, and with this view, the meeting held in the presence of the His Highness Shri Meghrajsihnji and the Dhrangadhra Chemical Works Chairman shri Gyanbabuji Jain in the precinct of the Dhrangadhra Raj Palace. The meeting decided to form a trust under the name of Halvad Dhrangadhra Education Society in the rented house in Bhavani Bhuvan on Zala Road. Gyanbabuji motivated the noble enterprise philanthropically donating Rs. 3,00,000/- .

The new management formed of the college teachers took over amid the hazel horizons to sustain the higher educational institute in the backward area of Dhrangadhra and Halvad talukas and the salary to the college staff given by the management was kept as deposit in the institute and the college functioning continued. The college staff extended their service to the college without withdrawing salary and it was in the history of higher education, a phenomenon never would have happened and never to happen.

After the completion of the new building at the bank of Mansagar lake, the Principal Shri S.R. Dave and the Secretary Shri Amichandbhai L. Sanghvi held a meeting with the Dhrangadhra Chemical Works Chairman Shri Sahu Shriyansji Jain accepted the invitation and on the eve of 17th September,1971 the new building inaugurated.
